The sand dunes of the Sahara Desert are absolutely beautiful. They are the largest sand dunes on earth and can be seen looming large in the distance from many miles away. Our expedition into the desert sands of the Sahara on camels was the highlight of my trip to Morocco. I shared this 3-day, 2-night trip through the route of a thousand kasbahs and into the Sahara Desert with Vivien and Crystelle - two very nice ladies from France. While in the desert, we slept in beduin tents that were so nicely decorated with Moroccan carpets that we hardly new our beds were sitting above sand. And in the evening, our desert hosts treated us to a great show of Beduin music and dancing, making our desert trip very memorable.

We rode these camels into the sands of the Sahara Desert and let them rest while we explored a few peaks in the dunes nearby.

the sweeping sands of the Sahara Desert
There is something quite fascinating about the smooth-flowing undulating waves of sand in the Sahara Desert.

the Sahara sands at sunset
The color and shape of these dunes are in constant change - even throughout the day as the sun angle changes, creating new shadows and erasing old.

sundown in the Sahara Desert
As the sun goes down, the golden sands of daytime gradually turn darker orange, sometimes with tints of red.

The Sahara sands are sensuous. It takes little of my imagination to see the desert as feminine forms, smoothly curving in beautiful ways.

After sunset in the Sahara, we returned to our tent camp under a blanket of shimmering stars, the Milky Way a swath of nighttime starlight.

This is our beduin camp, with tents for sleeping. In the center is a little courtyard entirely covered in carpets. Our tents were replete with sitting areas and little tables.

After exploring the desert sands of the Sahara, Vivien, Crystelle, and I enjoyed a bottle of wine in my tent before dinner.

The Desert Dromedaries - amazing performers of beduin music.
These are the Desert Dromedaries - our hosts in the Sahara Desert. I was thoroughly entertained by their music and singing. Absolutely a fantastic time.
